Out and About: Mass Exodus

Fond Magazine had the pleasure of attending the Ryerson University School of Fashion’s 25th annual Mass Exodus, now the largest student-run fashion event in North America. Each year, Mass Exodus showcases work by students graduating from Ryerson’s Fashion Design program, and students from its Fashion Communications program produce and promote the event.

There’s little we appreciate more than up and coming homegrown talent, and if the runway show of the 20 best student designers (as chosen by Stacey McKenzie) was an indication of what’s to come out of the Canadian fashion industry, you’re  in for a true treat. Plus, every “real” fashion show we’ve been to could take cues from Mass Exodus, which was thoroughly and creatively organized, produced and executed.

Here are some of our favourite designers and looks from the evening.

Tell Me I’m Pretty – Too Faced Cosmetics ‘Better Than False’ Lash Extension System

betterthanfalse

I go through phases of burning through my wallet in the hopes of finding the best beauty product for whatever area of my face I feel is currently lacking. This month, it’s lashes. I have thin, straight, wimpy little eyelashes. This isn’t the first time I’ve set out to find the best mascara for my itty bitty lashes, but this time I think I’ve stumbled upon something really special.

Enter Too Faced Cosmetics’s “Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System”. I know, I know, we’ve all seen this before: a mascara where you apply a white base coat and then a black top coat. The idea is essentially to apply several layers of mascara to build as much volume (read: clump) as possible. But this one is different! It contains micro bits of nylon fibre (which look like silk fluff) which attaches to your existing lashes and creates the illusion of more hair, rather than glopping on layers upon layers of mascara to attempt to produce length and volume.
If false lashes are wigs for your eyes, than this is the equivalent of getting temporary extensions for your lashes. All without having to deal with glue and ripping out a few at the end of the day.
